On October 23rd, Dan was involved it what sounds like a minor accident in a parking lot. He hit a low concrete pole while leaving the lot, going ~5 MPH.

He suffered a contusion to his spinal cord, and he has lost the movement in his extremities (arms and legs). He has had an MRI and a CAT Scan. No bones were broken, but there was significant damage and swelling to his spinal cord. The doctors are waiting for the swelling to go down, at which time they should be able to tell more about whether he will regain any movement. Regardless, he will likely have to have surgery to stabilize his spinal cord and to help prevent any additional loss of function.

He is lying in a neck brace to stabilize him as they wait. Pam and Liz visited him yesterday. Dan can talk, but it is not easy for him to do so.

Dad passed away this evening at 6 pm. This was a rough week, but today he was asleep and pain-free, for which we are grateful.
