Journal
Today we wrapped up our 6 month follow-up appointments at Mayo. It's hard to believe it has been six months since we heard the word cancer. Had the 10th and final bronchoscopy yesterday. It was easy peasy compared to all the others. They just went down with the flexible scope and camera - no tools! Done in 15 minutes!
Today we met with the surgeon and the airway and lungs look awesome! There is only a slight narrowing where they sutured the airway. My breathing has improved greatly since the stent was removed two months ago - very little coughing, no shortness of breath or wheezing. It is wonderful to be able to walk up a flight of stairs and not be completely winded. It was nice to be able to thank the surgeon in person for not giving up and working diligently to save my lower lobe. She added that we both worked hard, didn't give up and eventually got the result we wanted. They made a movie of my surgery but she had to add on several slides of the complications before adding the happy ending. Very grateful for the happy ending.
We also met with the oncologist today. The CT-scan of my lungs showed an increased number of small nodules or "tumorlets." They are nothing to be concerned about now as they are very small but will need to be watched. There is a slightly higher than 50% chance this cancer will not return but will be monitored closely. I go back in 3 months for another CT scan and then every 6 months for life.
Thank you for the continued prayers and for your loving support throughout this journey.
