Last Friday, I had my PET scan and tonight I finally got the results back from my oncologist.  The takeaway was that the imaging showed mixed results which of course leads to mixed emotions.  On a positive note, the cancerous lymph node in my chest showed no activity at all so this was an improvement and good news.  The spot on my right pelvis looked essentially the same.  Unfortunately, the four tumors on my spine had increased in brightness and showed more activity.  For whatever reason, the Olaparib seems to be working in some areas but not others.
Since the scan results were mixed, my doctor would like to see me continue on the Olaparib, in hopes of getting some more time out of this medication. To treat the increase in cancerous activity in the spine, I will now have to do radiation. The hope is that a more localized course of treatment can be effective in treating that specific area.  While I’m not super excited about doing radiation again, I know I can handle it and I’m glad to not be switching medication just yet.  They will reach out to me in the next couple weeks to set up my consultation with the radiation oncologist.  After that, he will determine the plan.  It should only be a few rounds and will be done at MN Oncology in Maplewood.
Saturday morning after the scan we had the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which I was so excited about!   We had 25 people who joined “Andrea’s Posse-tivity” team.  The day was perfect from start to finish.  It was an amazing experience and I know that I will participate in this event for as long as I can.  We raised $2700 toward Susan G. Komen which allowed us to be one of the top VIP teams at the event.  It was an honor to be surrounded by so many courageous people and walk in the “Parade of Hope” before the race, with other survivors.   Our team for the walk was filled with many of my close friends, gymnasts and gym parents as well as my family.  It was a special day.
Thank you for following my journey, I appreciate you all!
