Vanessa Mendoza Vanessa Mendoza

Welcome to our CaringBridge website to help you know how Vanessa is doing in her recovery.  As you may know, Vanessa was involved in a horrific car accident on Thanksgiving day, 2016.  Suffering a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures, Vanessa spent 5 weeks in a coma on a ventilator, had a hummingbird drain in her skull to relieve pressure from the brain swelling, had surgeries to stabilize some of her fractures, had a wound vac put in.  She now is ventilated through a tracheostomy, a breathing tube in her neck.  Two weeks ago, she opened her beautiful eyes.  Even though she is not yet able to talk, she is tracking people with her eyes, especially her mom, family, and favorite nurses.   Her uncle discovered she can answer yes/no questions by blinking her left eye, once for yes and once for no.

Thank you for the many prayers and all the support.  It will be a very long recovery, and Vanessa will need to relearn everything.  But the brain has an amazing way of healing, so we have lots of hope.
