Welcome!  We will be using this CaringBridge site to keep you all up to date on Tony’s latest “adventure”. Check here for updates on how the surgery went and how he is doing. For those of you who have not read Tony’s blog where he discusses, in his inimitable fashion, what this surgery is all about, we invite you to click on this link (http://fasterbarnacle.com/2016/08/30/quadzilla-vs-the-syrinx-round-2-unteathering-the-cord/  Click (http://fasterbarnacle.com/2016/08/30/quadzilla-vs-the-syrinx-round-2-unteathering-the-cord/  Click) (http://fasterbarnacle.com/2016/08/30/quadzilla-vs-the-syrinx-round-2-unteathering-the-cord/  Click (http://fasterbarnacle.com/2016/08/30/quadzilla-vs-the-syrinx-round-2-unteathering-the-cord/  Click)) on the links within the link if you want more information.)

Tony's surgery is scheduled for Thursday morning at 7:00AM.  It is expected to be about 6 hours. Tony, Travis & Mom & Dad (us) met with Tony's neurosurgeon today. We all now have a much better understanding of what needs to be done. The scar tissue that has formed around the spinal cord at the site of his injury is preventing the free flow of spinal fluid up and down his spinal cord. This has allowed A syrinx (cyst) to form inside his spinal cord. It now extends from his lumbar vertebrae to his cervical vertebrae.

The removal of the scar tissue (untethering)would be futile unless the syrinx is drained. The 1st surgery tomorrow is to drain the syrinx. The 2nd surgery, scheduled for the 29th is the untethering and more difficult because the surgeon will be working at the site of his injury. This means that Tony will be in the hospital for about two weeks after the 29th.

We'll post more tomorrow after the first surgery.

Don’t forget to post a word of encouragement, a prayer, memory or, importantly, some humor. We will see that Tony gets to read all of them.

Thank you so much for all the encouragement we have all received so far.  Tony is so grateful as are we, his parents and his sisters!

God bless all of you as you have blessed the Schmiesing family . . . .
