Two weeks ago Tom started feeling incredibly weak and complaining of shortness of breath. He went to the hospital in Scottdale and was treated for pneumonia. Upon further examination, drs requested a PET scan and radiology revealed possible mesothelioma and prostate cancer.
With aid of his family, he boarded the plane for Christmas in Park City, Utah. But upon arrival we all noticed he was very confused and extremely dehydrated.
He was taken to the SLC ER and eventually admitted to the Huntsman Cancer Institute on Christmas Day, Dec 25th. Results from a cat scan and MRI reveal spots on the scull and back, elevated PSA (prostate cancer). A biopsy on his left lung was performed yesterday and were waiting for results for what’s going on in the lung next week. His biggest complaint is the lack of clarity which the MRI revealed shrinking of the front lobe of the brain. We don’t know whether that is dementia or something else.
He is also experiencing a drop foot in the left foot. Drs aren’t sure what is causing this. PT is working with him on some exercises to see if we can rebuild strength.
Today we are working on getting him released from the huntsman hospital and take him back to Melissa’s house in Park City.
We know he’d love to hear from family and friends to lift his spirits. He has touched so many lives in so many positive ways. We feel so blessed to call him our Dad, brother, husband, friend.
