I’m heading south for a tropical vacation in Rochester, MN!  Mayo is not quite Paris, but it will have to do.  I have been diagnosed with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy and have decided to have a septal myectomy so that I can sport a rockin’ scar.

This condition has negatively impacted my life for some time, and, although, in my case, it is not life-threatening, this surgery will greatly improve my quality of life.  It is open-heart surgery, but, given my age, fitness level, and the severity of the condition, it is considered a low-risk procedure.  I’ll be having surgery on Tuesday, April 10th.  I have one of the best surgeons in the world, and am looking forward to feeling better in the long run!

Feel free to forward this to anyone else you think may want to know, but I am asking to please not post this to Facebook, as I prefer to keep this a bit more private.  Dan will update the Caring Bridge site regularly and send out updates as they come.
