Theron Coleman

As many of you know already, July 2016 Theron suffered a stroke which unfortunately took his speech from him. Over the past year, he has made great progress working with his speech therapist in Traverse City. If any of you know Theron personally, you know he is pretty stubborn and doesn't back down from challenges. Regaining his speech is one of the hardest challenges he has ever faced but hes not giving up.

Recently, he was accepted into the U of M Aphasia Program in Ann Arbor Michigan. He will start this highly intensive program in September.  On normal weeks Theron receives about 2 hours of speech therapy a week and at U of M he will be receiving on average 8 hours of therapy a DAY! Not only are we hoping the different approaches and techniques to speech help him but its also important that he sees he is not the only one out there struggling day to day with aphasia and apraxia. He will be in this program with others in the same boat as him, he will visually see and hear he is not alone.

When we learned that the aphasia program was not going to be covered by insurance at all, it was amazing to watch our small community come forward and be part of helping Theron go to U of M.  Thank yous just dont seem like enough to everyone that donated money, donated auction items, and attended the benefit for Theron in June. We are very thankful that so many people reached out and wanted to help Theron.

Since the benefit  many of you have asked to try and be kept in the loop on Therons journey at U of M, which has brought us to this great site. Instead of Facebook posts at random here and there, I will try my hardest to post a couple times a week here so you can all be with him as he goes through this program.
