Thelma fell on Friday night. Saturday morning after phoning several times, Linda came by to check on Thelma. Unfortunately Thelma was still where she fell when Linda found her. Linda and Betty put Thelma to bed to rest. As the day progressed, Jerry drove in and took over the night shift. The decision was made on Sunday morning to take her to the hospital. The ambulance came and there the "Rest of the Story" begins.
The ambulance took Thelma to the first hospital where her irregular heart beat was given medication. They also determined she had Hydrocephalus, (spinal fluid building up in the brain) in her brain. There was concern that she might have suffered a stroke and the decision was made to mover her to UMN a level 1 trauma center with Neurosurgery abilities. After admitting her on Saturday, they worked to stabilize her and try to get her blood pressure under control. Sunday morning after another CAT scan, the decision was made that another Stroke was eminent and surgery was required to control the fluid draining into her brain. The surgery removed a small amount of skull at the back of her head (where the cerebellum and spine meet) where they worked on repairing the valve that regulates the fluids to the brain and there they also found a blood clot. They did the repair and removed the clot.
This morning they are working to bring her off the anesthesia and she is sitting up in bed. She is working hard to have the breathing tube removed and they continue to treat her irregular heartrate.
Her responses are amazing and she presently has full use of her hands, legs and feet. We are so encouraged by what we see. We are praying for a full recovery.
We will post updates here.
Thanks so much for your love and support. Please post your thoughts and prayers here and we will ready them to her.
