Tegan Deske is a 7th grader at East Peoria Central Junior High. She is 13, a Taekwondo Black Belt, avid roller blader, vegetarian, animal activist, and Humanitarian. She is a Grappler, & Sparing fighter.
In January, Tegan was diagnosed with a serious neurological disorder, Chiari Malformation. This is when the bottom part of the brain, the cerebellum, descends into the spinal column putting pressure on the brain & spinal cord. Chiari causes a wide range of debilitating symptoms. Severe headaches, spinal fluid pockets, vision loss, paralysis and more.
Less than 2 weeks after her diagnosis she had brain surgery to remove the pressure. Shortly after, her cerebellum descended even further. Tegan will be having a second surgery in June of 2017.
