On Tuesday night March 14th, we checked Volker into the ER at Baylor Hospital in Garland with an extremely high fever, chills, and a severe infection. While there, they ran some tests that revealed that he had some serious blood deficiencies.
He was then transferred in the middle of the night to Baylor University Center in Dallas and after running several more detailed blood tests he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He will be hospitalized at Baylor for approximately 5 weeks while he goes through chemo treatments. His white blood cell count is non-existent and therefore, is very susceptible to infections from anyone who might possibly be sick.
While we know Volker loves being around people, during this time long visits take a toll on him. Please contact Michelle or Ana before coming to visit, to make sure that it is a good day for Volker. He's already been through one bought of cancer 20 years ago, so he and the whole family are prepared for another tough fight.
We love you all and appreciate your prayers for peace, wisdom and healing during this time.
