Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. We wanted to share the news that Amber has been diagnosed with Colon Cancer - which has spread to the liver and lungs. We are still in the early and complex stages of diagnosis with lots and lots of tests but it looks like she will undergo chemotherapy for the next several months.
The good news is that she will undergo treatment at nearby Lynn Cancer Institute in Boca (in collaboration with Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven) so that she can be in the comfort of her amazingly supportive and loving community of friends and family.
More good news is that this is treatable and there is a good chance the chemo will shrink the lesions. Once we get through this chemo, we will reassess next steps. If the docs feel it is reasonable and helpful, they will explore surgical options to remove any remaining cancer. We are constantly reminded that this is a marathon not a sprint and to take things one step at a time! Our priority now is a MAXIMUM RESPONSE TO THE CHEMO. There are a lot of great drugs out there to do that - with new ones every day - which is why being overseen by a major hospital and research center like Yale Smilow is so helpful.
Amber has been amazingly strong and positive - the support system of friends and family around her is essential so that she can focus on staying healthy and responding maximally to the chemo.
