On Sunday, September 11, 2016, Susie woke up not feeling well and decided she needed to go to the IU Health Methodist Hospital emergency room. While there she suffered a massive heart attack. The doctors then inserted a stent into the affected blocked coronary artery. Later that day they also inserted a balloon device (intra-aortic balloon pump, IABP) to give her heart mechanical support so it can repair itself and resume normal function. A ventilator was also inserted to move breathable air into and out of her lungs. She was stabilized and moved into the cardiac care unit.
