Well, it seems my routine annual mammogram in June needed follow-up, which needed additional follow-up, which led to a biopsy and diagnosis of breast cancer.  It's early (Stage 1), it's small (1.6 cm), it's hormone receptive (that's good), and there is apparently no lymph node involvement (also good).  It is invasive (expected) and considered on the fast growing side (not so good).  But on balance, if you're going to have to deal with this stuff this is about as good a position as you can be in.

For better or worse, I have a number of close friends who have been through this.  They have been an invaluable source of support and information already.  One told me to get over myself and do a CaringBridge no matter how awkward it feels.  As someone who both craves and loathes attention it feels plenty awkward. . . but here goes .  . . .

PS  They are pretty bold about asking for support for CaringBridge on this site and making it sound like it supports me or my page.  It doesn't.
