Survive & thrive!
Trust the journey!
These are my mantras.

As ya'll know, in trying to be proactive and face my BRCA2/CHEK2 gene mutation diagnosis, I discovered I have stage 0 (YAY!) Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS), high grade with comedonecrosis, ER negative, PgR negative. It's a 2cm x 2cm area of my left breast. Fun stuff!

Assuming that it hasn't spread to my lymph nodes (& it's highly unlikely that it has), the plan is double mastectomy with DIEP Flap reconstruction. It's a bit of a monster surgery (12-15 hours) with 3-5 day hospital stay followed by 6-8 week recovery. The surgery will take place at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver. The date has yet to be set, but will likely be in August.

As we move forward, Steve & I will keep you updated here and let you know what, if anything, we need. Right now I'm taking recommendations for good books. Reading for pleasure is a bit of a foreign concept. I'm looking forward to it!

The sooner we get on with this, the sooner we can put it behind us.

Onward!
