Welcome to our CaringBridge website, Expanding the Vibe! We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place about Steve's continued recovery from his February 2017 liver transplant! We appreciate your support and words of encouragement while Steve kicks some ass.

ORIGINAL BACKGROUND POSTING (APRIL 2016):

More than 20 years ago some slightly elevated values (ALT and AST) appeared in a routine blood test. The elevated values never went away, but also didn't seem to be causing any problems. No cause has ever been identified despite regular and thorough testing.I was a daily runner (3-5 miles per day) until about 18 months ago, and was doing 15 mile bike rides until August of 2015. I enjoyed several hobbies, yard work, and craft shows as well.

About 2 years ago it was discovered that I had developed liver cirrhosis. It caught everyone by surprise. However, my health has steadily deteriorated since then and I am currently on the waiting list for a full liver transplant.

The shortage of donated organs results in a transplant system in which the sickest patients receive the organs first. Many patients get extremely sick (including me) prior to transplant.

Right now, the goal is to stay as strong and as healthy as possible prior to the transplant, and me and my family are very focused on that goal.
