Hello loved ones,

I wanted to give a brief overall summary of what’s happened for those who need to be caught up.

First of all, Sonja has been amazing throughout this whole process. She has already gone through so much, and has proven to be such a fighter. She has impressed all the doctors and nurses she’s come across. And she’s impressed us and we are soo incredibly proud of her.

Sonja has been diagnosed with stage 3 hepatoblastoma (cancer of the liver.) The tumor has not metastasized to the lungs or lymph nodes and is all contained in the left lobe of her liver. On Thursday, August 5th, she received her first chemotherapy treatment (each treatment lasts about 6 hours.) She will receive chemo once every two weeks, and after every two rounds they will scan her the following week to see how much the tumor has shrunk. If they feel it is small enough and safe enough, then she will undergo surgery to have it removed. If they feel it is not yet safe to do surgery, she will do two more rounds of chemo, and they will scan again, and decide again whether or not to do surgery. Given the size of her tumor they believe it might take about four rounds. I pray it won’t take more than four rounds and hope it might even be removed after two.🙏🤞🙏🤞
