Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  I am Ann, Shirley's daughter.  On Monday, 4/12/21, I went in to help mom with her morning routine.  She told me she was having some chest pain.  She seemed to be having some breathing problems and her belly was distended.  I called an ambulance and she was taken to Mercy Hospital.  Tests revealed that mom had a large, life threatening, pulmonary embolism.  The CAT scan also revealed a tumor on her pancreas and innumerable masses on her liver.  Heparin was immediately administered and she was admitted into the hospital.  On Tuesday she had cardio tests which revealed her heart was strong and they felt the heparin was working.  On Thursday they performed a liver biopsy to determine if she had cancer and they administered a CA-19 blood test which is a marker for pancreatic cancer.  Normal range for this test is 0-37 and her blood test came back at 120,000.  The biopsy results came back Friday and  revealed she had the end stages of cancer.  They believe the cancer started in her pancreas and metastasized to her liver.  I brought her home from the hospital on Sunday.  Mom lives with our family.
