For those of you who don't know my story, I will give you the chain of events.  I was preparing for knee surgery that took place on September 27th, 2016.   As usual, there were a few preoperative tests that I had to get done the week before.  I had an EKG, some blood work and a chest x-ray.  On the Friday before the surgery, I got a call from my regular doctor, she said that they had found something on my chest x-ray but to go ahead with the knee surgery and come to see her after a few days  post surgery.  Glenn, my husband, and I went to see her and she explained that there was a 3cm mass in the lower part of my left lung.  She was very candid about the possibilities but ordered additional tests including a biopsy which came back positive for cancer.  Fortunately, I had a chest x-ray less than a year ago where the mass was not detected so our hopes have been that it has not spread outside the left lung which would be a Stage 1a or 1b.  After the biopsy, we met with an Oncologist and a Lung Surgeon.  A PET scan was ordered to see if the lymph nodes responded (lit up)  when injected with sugar (cancers favorite treat).  There is a lymph node outside of the left lung by my airway that is enlarged and responded to the PET scan.  We are still waiting to know the extent of the cancer and how vigorous the treatment plan will be.  I will try to keep this site updated with any news.  Be kind to one another!
