Saundra "Sunny" Frantzich, born December 5, 1938, has lived in the western suburbs of Minneapolis, MN for the better part of her 78 years. She is married to Dr William P Frantzich and together they are the parents of Kirsten, Timothy, Paul & Sarah. As of 2017 they are grandparents to 11 grandchildren. Bill & Sunny live in Wayzata, MN and spend as much time as possible at their second home in Snowmass Village, CO.

Everyone who knows Sunny agrees...she embodies the light and joy of her name.

The Reason We Are Here:

Sunny has carried a persistent cough for several weeks that felt like allergies or a possible low grade cold. She went in for a chest X-ray and  Dr Harmon, her pulmonary doctor, took a small tissue sample from her right lung in late July. Friday, August 4, Sunny was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma in the right upper lobe of her right lung. Being a non-smoker this is a surprise to us all.

Brain & body CT scans revealed  that the cancer is serious and has been active for several months and a plan was developed by her oncology group to address it with a blended chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment near the end of August.

Thursday, August 10th, while at Hazeltine National Golf Club for dinner, Sunny felt an uncomfortable pressure in her back on the right side behind her ribs. Over the course of minutes the pressure increased and it was difficult for her to get a deep breath. She was taken to the hospital by her husband and son. They spent 3 hours in the ER and Sunny was then moved to a room at Methodist Hospital where she rested for 12 days.

Sunny received her first infusion of chemo August 13th.

Sunny recently moved into transitional care in the Wayzata area with hopes of getting home. It is expected that this "hosp-transitional care-home" cycle may be repeated as she goes through challenging treatments.
