My father is 85 years old. He has lived with me, my husband and our 2 kids for about 14 months. 4 years ago we started making long term plans for him to live in Richmond to be closer to his daughter (me) , son in law and grandkids. We had some bumps along the way. We were so excited to start moving him into his new senior apartment with a skilled nursing facility on site in case he ever needed long term care. We started getting his apartment ready but he was becoming markedly less functional each day. We thought he had a virus and would recover. We were shocked and saddeded to learn that he has incurable stage 4 cancer that had metastasized. We were told that while he could undergo some procedures to identify the origin of his cancer,  any testing or treatment would not cure his cancer and could cause significant  suffering. He made the decision to come home to stay with us in hospice care. We are grateful for 85 years of his life but saddened as we begin to say goodbye.  I decided to post here so that anyone who wants to keep up with our journey might do so.- - melissa ( daughter)
