As you all may have heard, Mom suffered a stroke on Monday, August 22nd.  An MRI was done on Tuesday and unfortunately revealed the bilateral thalamic infarction. This type of stroke effects the consciousness/sleep and wake cycle.  She currently sleeps more than she is awake, so Ritalin is given several times a day to stimulate the brain, and help her to regain consciousness.

Over the course of the past week, Mom has shown some signs of improvement.  When she is awake, she recognizes faces and responds to questions.  Full sentences are still very hard, but overall these improvements are progressing.  It is very hopeful that Mom will be moved from the hospital to a health care facility this weekend, where she will receive occupational, physical, and speech therapy.  Mom has a rigorous journey ahead of her,  but as we all know, she is a fighter and we are very hopeful she will continue to fight this battle and become stronger.

Dad is with Mom everyday and is being very strong and positive, which is a true testament of their 58 years of marriage this September.  All of the Lenz family, from children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have been at the hospital daily to support Mom and Dad during this unfortunate ordeal.

Your continued prayers and well wishes are very appreciated.  We will keep you all informed as changes occur.
