Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Friday, Nov. 15 around 6 pm Nada and Nelius Ronning and their 9 year old granddaughter, Hazel (Rachel and Brian's daughter) , were in a significant car accident in Thousand Oaks, CA. This was a traumatic event for all of them. Hazel is okay physically and is at home with her family. Nada and Nelius were taken together by ambulance to our local hospital.

Nada had a CT scan and it came out clear.  She has a hematoba on her wrist and some lacerations that will heal. She was discharged today and is sleeping a lot.

Nelius was more serious. He had a CT scan that showed a blood bleed on the outside of his brain. This will go away naturally and they are not concerned about this.  He had an MRI that showed that he had a broken neck.  He has a spinal cord injury, several fractured ribs, a small tear in his lung and a broken sternum. All of these made his emergency neck surgery last night very serious.  His surgery was successful in fixing his neck.  He has weakness in his legs and arms but has feeling.  Each test of his arms/legs/fingers are improving. He is in ICU and we are awaiting an update from his surgeon. He is wearing a neck brace and will have to for a long time. This morning the physical therapist came in and got him out of bed to walk a little.  That felt like a miracle. He has been asking a lot of questions from the medical staff...he wants to know all the details.  They have said that they are impressed by his questions. We know that this will be a long journey of healing for him. The timing of surgery for Nelius will dramatically help in his recovery.

We will update you here as we know more. For now, we know that they all three have their own healing to do...physically and emotionally. Thank you for your prayers. Nelius cannot have visitors right now.

We do not know what future days, weeks and months look like.  We have been surrounded by family, friends and community already. We know you love and care for our family, thank you.

It is hard to ask for help. Many of you have already responded in different ways, thank you. The gift of not having to worry about meals is a huge gift for us in this time. I took a nap today when I would have been cooking dinner. You are invited to join the Meal Train for The Ronning Goehner Family & The Ronning Lindgren Family by making a meal or donating money towards one.
