Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Also, many people have asked how they can support my mother during her recovery, so this will be a place to let you know how you can help! (Since I live in Washington, DC, and I am an only child, I am especially grateful for your kindness.)
As you know, my mother is a wonderful and caring person who was a music teacher in Chicago and Laredo for many decades and who continues to be an active member of the community in Laredo. Thirteen years ago, she suffered a heart attack, but thanks to the good care of Dr. Carlos Cigarroa, she had many years of good health. On the evening of Wednesday, August 24, she had a second heart attack and was admitted to Laredo Medical Center. Due to blockages in the blood vessels that supply her heart, she needs coronary artery bypass surgery, which is a type of open heart surgery.
After surgery, she is going to get better and better every day, but it is going to be a long road to full recovery. She and I are both truly grateful for the love and support she has received and continues to receive from everyone. I want to give a special thanks to Cliff, Triana, Father Paul, and the Christ Church Episcopal Church. You have not only cared for my mother: you've cared for me during this frightening time. Your generosity is both humbling and inspiring.
