Nicholas, a very active 12 year old, began experiencing hip and leg pain earlier this year. We attributed this to growing pains, sciatic pain, possibly even a poor fitting bike. After many PT visits and things getting worse, we went to our general pediatrician and got an x-ray which didn't show anything and then an MRI. The MRI showed a tennis ball size mass on his pelvis bone that presented like a condition called Ewings Sarcoma. We immediately got the ball rolling to be seen at Johns Hopkins thanks to my brother-in-law. The ortho in Anchorage confirmed they could not treat this in Anchorage and we would need to go outside to get it treated. We go on from here...
NOTE that donations made via the TRIBUTES section go to caring bridge - if you wish to contribute to Nicholas' medical fund we have a go fund me you can access via the "Ways to Help" tab above.
