Well, March 1st came with a fierce roar. In the early morning hours Nancy suffered a Left Frontal Intracranial hemorrhage a.k.a Stroke. Whew. Didn't see that coming. The support, love and concern we have received from everyone has been a blessing. We have been reading messages and trying to keep current with updating all of you. I'm hoping that this site will be a way to share thoughts, and send messages to Mom.
Here is what we know: I promise this won't be a "Cover every detail Julie story" Mom is at Abbott Northwest Hospital currently in the "Neuroscience" Department. I told her it's where they put all the smart people. She spent the first few nights in the 5 Star Neurology ICU with a caring and knowledgeable staff. She has been making slow improvements daily. The neurology Doc is pleased with her physical progress, as are we. She can move all extremities with some right sided weakness, weight bearing, and starting to move herself in bed a little. Today she is eating a little with the assistance of Speech Therapy and also tolerating thickened liquids. She also sustained a fracture in her left shoulder probably during the episode, or during a transfer. Orthopedic Doc isn't going to do surgery and ordered a sling for the next 3 weeks and then re-evaluate. We are pretty confident she is aware of her surroundings and recognizes us, but at this point it's too early to know for sure. She has verbalized a few things like "Yes" "No" and when flowers were delivered, "Oh my" She perked up when her Grandkids walked through the door. I will try and update as I can. Thanks for all the support and prayers. --Julie
