We hope this finds you well. Mom has had quite the struggle for the last few weeks as we discovered cancer in her lung and her brain. This sneaky pest was first found in a chest x-ray when she was diagnosed with pneumonia about 5 weeks ago. She is surrounded by a great team of doctors lead by Dr. Sawyer who was her breast cancer Oncologist 13 years ago. Mom and Dad have great confidence in this team of doctors.
We did seek a second opinion before treatment from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and they feel very confident the treatment plan Dr. Sawyer and the team have developed for her is right on track.
Today she will be treated with Cyberknife Radiosurgery for the lesions on the brain. She has been prepped with anti-seizure medication to help with the side effects. She will not be able to drive for a few months while she is on this medication. Everyone has been so great in coming to get her and taking her around. Thank you all for that!
They will be testing a tissue sample with a new lung cancer chemotherapy to see if it reacts positively to the new drug. We have not discussed any other chemotherapy at this time.
Once she is cleared from the brain cancer, she will begin treatment on the lung.
We will use this awesome site to communicate to everyone. She is a little overwhelmed with all the positive thoughts and prayers and she appreciates it all!! Cards are always welcome. We would love to see your favorite pictures of Mom on this site.
