Nancy Chamberlin Nancy’s Cancer Journey

First post: Apr 24, 2020 Latest post: Jan 22, 2022
Welcome to my CaringBridge website. I was diagnosed with blood cancer Monday, April 13 2020, confirmed Tuesday, April 21, and started chemo Friday, April 24. Multiple myeloma is characterized by too many proteins in the plasma and too little red blood cells.
I first found out I was anemic when I was tested for donating blood early in February 2020. I didn’t go the doctor until March. Lots of tests and procedures ensued when they discovered it wasn’t low iron causing it. In the meantime the natural life cycle of my bones was disrupted as they were breaking down faster than the regrowth. There were multiple lesions and a cracked rib. I developed pain and bad joints, and I was already walking with a cane 3 weeks before I was diagnosed with cancer.
Multiple myeloma is not curable, but it is treatable.
