Najma Nazyat Love for Najma Nazyat

We are very sad to share that our beloved comrade, Najma Nazy’at, had a serious stroke on February 18th.  She is currently being treated at a hospital just north of New York City, as she had the stroke while attending a conference near there with BYOP. Her team of doctors at the hospital are providing excellent care for her and doing a great job of carefully explaining things to Mama Kai and family. She is currently just beginning the process of healing and recovery.

And we know she will be a fighter! She has fought for and with youth and communities of color across Boston and across the U.S. Over the years she has shaped so many of us--from current BYOP members and alumni, to all of us who have marched with her, read books because of her, talked for hours with her, taken coffee runs with her, shared Kwanzaa with her, and so much more. Because of her incredible will and love and fight, she has helped make us the people we need to be right now: the friends who will help to carry her, her family, and BYOP through this.

Thank you so much! As she begins her road back to Boston, back to us--her family, friends and colleagues, and back to her calling as a kickass youthworker and organizer, we are all with her. Thank you.
