Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated during Morgan's surgeries. We appreciate your support and words of encouragement.
Morgan is scheduled for multiple brain surgeries to treat and possibly cure her epilepsy. In the first surgery the doctor will place electrode grids directly on Morgan's brain. The grids will remain in place for 5 days to 2 weeks so that EEG data can be gathered to pinpoint the area where her seizures start. Once there is sufficient data, she will undergo another surgery to remove the targeted portion of her brain.
Morgan had her first seizure a little over 15 years ago and has been treated with 9 medications over the past 12 years. Medications have worked inconsistently with side effects ranging from inconvenient to devastating. She is currently having several complex partial seizures a week with many more simple partial seizures. These seizures impair her consciousness, ability to concentrate, and memory. There is a 70% to 80% chance that surgery will significantly reduce or eliminate her seizures and her dependence on medication.
