Monica was diagnosed in October, 2015 with Stage Four Inflammatory Breast Cancer. We quickly learned that it had spread to most of the bones in her body. She underwent radiation and three rounds of chemotherapy, but after each round of chemo resulted in life-threatening situations leading to hospitalizations, Monica, with the support of her family, made the decision to focus on quality of life and time with family and friends. She has Herceptin treatments every three weeks to slow down the progression of the cancer, and also manages her health with organic nutrition and natural supplements. She has a great healthcare team, ranging from medical specialists to family, who help her focus on her goal: quality of life and time with family and friends. In June, scans showed no sign of cancer in her bones, and we rejoiced! We knew that the breast cancer would continue to advance, and the bone cancer would return, but we had a wonderful respite for a time! In the last few months, Monica has been able to travel to family events, new places, and visits with friends. In December, 2016, we learned that the bone cancer had returned, in all the places it was before, and a few new ones. Most recently, Monica has been fighting a life-threatening septic infection. However, you know Monica, with her sassy wit, incredible strength of body and mind, and tremendous spirit.
