On September 29th, Michelle was diagnosed with lymphoma. After further testing, it was determined to more specifically be Richter's Syndrome which is a transformation of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) into a fast-growing diffuse large B cell lymphoma, a variety of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. She likely had CLL for some time without knowing it.
Michelle started treatment immediately and will be undergoing a minimum of 3 cycles of the Magrath protocol of chemotherapy. Following the chemo, she will undergo a stem cell transplant.
Though this came as a shock to the entire family, we are so grateful and blessed to have the support of so many friends and family. We also feel so blessed that there is such exceptional care and treatment so close to home at the University of Iowa Hospital.
