As some of you already know, my Dad, Michael Kelly, has battled cancer for several years now. Before it was always a tumor that could be removed and no treatment was required. Unfortunately, this time is different. He was diagnosed with urethra cancer last year and it has now spread to his bones. We were told that any kind of invasive treatment, such as chemo, would drastically diminish his quality of life. We did not want to put him through that, so he's now on Hospice Care. We do not know how long he has, we are just trying to make him as comfortable as possible and enjoy the time we have left with him.
He was also diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia earlier this year. This type of dementia comes and goes so some days he's more "with it" than others. He does like to call friends and family so, if you receive a call from him on one of his more "kooky" days, you'll have to just entertain his conversation and go with it :).
Mom, Joy, is handing it as everyone would expect....she's our rock and taking care of her husband of almost 54 years is "what she was raised to do", in her words. We are so grateful for her and her infinite medical knowledge. Being a highly experienced nurse is priceless in this situation.
