Mike was diagnosed with esophageal cancer last summer. The doctor found it accidentally. The lab  has rated it as stage 1. The physicians at Froedert Cancer Center had hoped they could remove all the cancer cells without surgery. Unfortunately they were not able to do that. Mike will go to Froedert on December 20, 2016 to be prepped for his surgery on December 21. Dr. Hassler, the surgeon, will remove 2/3 of Mike's esophagus and a part of his stomach to make sure they get all the cancer cells. He will also remove some lymph nodes to make sure the cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes. The Pt scan showed nothing in the lymph nodes so we remain hopeful that nothing will be found there.

I will post news after Mike gets out of surgery. We expect that he will be in the ICU for around 3 days, and spend a total of around 10 days in the hospital.

We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. We are both very optimistic and are very grateful for the great team of doctors and nurses at Froedert.. Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and holidays.
