Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends & amily updated about Michael's condition & pending surgery on March 3rd @Northwesterm (NMH). We so appreciate your support, prayers, encouragement, & love during this time. If we don't respond personally to all of your cards, phone calls & emails, we hope you understand. I missed keeping many of you up to date from the beginning in Dec. Thus, if you did not receive the 4 big emails sent to family, here is a "brief" synopsis: You hopefully know by now that Michael had multiple back surgeries and all but two vertebrae are fused with rods & anchored to his pelvis. In Dec, one rod broke, followed by the 2nd rod in mid Jan, Both rods have to be replaced. He also has an impingement to his spinal cord at C2 in his neck, which must be fused to the long construction of new rods. He will have a large incision from neck to tailbone, w/a plastic surgeon to close. Michael is in a great deal of pain & is on 2 narcotics. His only relief comes if he remains still, positioned in a certain chair. He can't sleep in bed, he uses a walker, & is home bound until the surgery. My "straight man" is now stooped & shorter. This site is to keep you updated from this point on, especially during the surgery & rehab phase. Love and God Bless you all for caring so much.
