about 3 weeks ago my mom woke up to a large lump in her neck. We ended up going to the emergency room the next day to have it checked out. The Dr said she had a bad infection in her Salvatore gland and put her on heavy antibiotics. They were very concerned about her blood counts, but sent her home thinking it was probably the infection. The next day the Dr called and said we needed to make an appointment with an oncologist and hematologist to look further into why her blood counts were so off. We had our first appointment and we ended up scheduling a bone marrow biopsy for last Tuesday. Thursday morning (march 9th) her oncologist called and said we needed to meet with him at 11am to go over the results. My mom, myself and my brother Jeff all went to the appointment. That's when we were given the news that she had AML leukemia....and it was moving fast...like...days fast. We talked about a game plan of chemo and had her admitted by 1pm that day. By the end of the day, she had her chemo port in, her heart checked and she was ready to go. Yesterday morning they hooked up her first bag of chemo. She will be on a 24 hour drop for 7 days. It's called a 7+3 treatment. She will end up with 3 rounds of chemo for sure. This first stay will be 4-6 weeks and a 5 day stay for the other 2. We are praying for a remission after this first round. That won't mean she is cured.. it just means we are on the right track. She will have the 3 treatments for sure no matter what. She is a fighter and we fully intend to beat this!! She loves company to help the time go by. She is not allowed any flowers or children under 12 are not allowed. Please stay home if you have been sick or around anyone sick as her immune system will be wiped out. Keep the prayers coming! We know the lord will get us through this!!
