Meghan Zonich

Welcome to our CaringBridge website, we are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Meghan found a lump in her right breast mid-July and after consultation with her doctor had an ultrasound & biopsy on August 12th  which confirmed she has ductal carcinoma - AKA breast cancer. The tumor is 2.2cm, Her2+, ER+ & Grade 3 (most aggressive growing type but the most responsive grade to Chemo). The cancer has also spread to the lymph nodes in her right armpit. A series of scans (bone, body CT & MRI) will determine if the cancer has set up shop anywhere else. 

We met our wonderful Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Cory Donovan, on August 15th at Good Samaritan and she is confident in our odds. It helps she is also a breast cancer survivor & from a large Irish family. She is direct & aggressive with a little humor - a perfect fit. On August 22 Dr. Donovan will place a port in Meghan's upper left breast to administer Chemo. Depending on how Meghan responds to Chemo, surgery will happen around the holidays & either be a lumpectomy or full mastectomy followed by radiation. The port will remain for about a year to continue the Her2 cocktail. 

August 20th we met with the Medical Oncologist, Dr. Zahi Mitri from OHSU, to determine the Chemo schedule. The 6 rounds of Chemo start September 3rd and will happen every 3 weeks through the end of the year.  

We are still in shock but are thankful for the amazing medical staff in our corner and the fabulous group of family & friends who have stepped in to help us adjust to the new normal. We appreciate your support, prayers and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
