In early April of 2017, my twin sister made a visit to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City because she was experiencing jaundice. For a non smoker and one that hardly drinks, we were shocked to find mass on her pancreas that was pushing into her liver.
We immediately drove to North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill to conduct a biopsy. The results were benign but the Whipple procedure was still required to remove the mass. What a relief, right?
Unfortunately no, as on our 38th birthday we received devastating news. A more thorough biopsy was performed on the mass removed and several cancerous lymph nodes were discovered.
The average person's chance of living with such an ailment is 25%. Thank God Mary is not your average person.
For those local, and would like to support Mary, we have a prayer group that meets every Monday morning at 9 AM Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabeth City, NC
