Dear Family and Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I'm starting this CaringBridge page for my sweet brother Mark.  Last week on Thursday, Mom, Mark and I went to Chicago for Mark's son, Elliot's, graduation from Naval Basic Training.  Mark was not himself when we left and just got worse as time went on.  By the time we got home late Friday night, Mark could barley walk and was having a very hard time concentrating and communication.  The next morning it was worse so Mom called me then 911.
After a few hours in the ER and many, many questions, it was determined that Mark had chronic renal failure.  This was probably caused by IV antibiotics that he had been taking for about 4 weeks due to an infection in his foot and bone.  He was sent to ICU and was put on a ventilator where he has been sense Saturday afternoon.  They have kept him completely sedated because of the ventilator.
Yesterday the nurses told us that he had likely suffered a mild heart attack and may have a staph infection.  Those results will take a few days to come back.

Late this afternoon they removed the ventilator and reduced the sedation.  Right before we left they had configured his bed almost like a chair.  His eyes were open and he seemed to know who we were.  Mom asked him to smile and he made an effort!  He still seemed to be confused.
I will post update as needed.  We ask for your positive thoughts and prayers.  Please share this link with anybody who knows and cares about Mark.
Thanks for your love and support, Becky
