Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

We brought Margaret to our home the 5th of August. On the 26th of August we took Margaret to IU North Hospital. They found a UTI and found fluid in the sack around her right lung. The Doctor the next morning told Dave, “this could be cancer”. This news was totally not what we were expecting. The next day they drained one liter of fluid from her lung. The next week we saw a Lung Doctor and after speaking with Margaret and his physical exam he told us that the fluid had cancer properties and after ruling other causes out he was confident this was cancer. We talked about what we wanted and all agreed comfort would be our main focus.
On the 21st of September Margaret fell in her bedroom, it was 7:30 in the morning, she couldn’t remember if she was coming back to bed or getting out. Margaret felt she didn’t injure herself and didn’t want to go to the hospital. The next morning we took her back to IU North. The UTI was back and they found a compressed fracture to her vertebrae that wasn’t caused by the fall but by cancer in the spine. They also found cancer on the stomach and liver.
Our objective is to make Momma Coffman as comfortable as we can. Hospice is coming in and we have a regular schedule with the nurse and aid. All are welcomed to visit and Margaret enjoys the cards, letters and photos she has received.

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
