Marc McKinley

On August 6, 2021 our brother Marc had a severe accident. It was a Minnesota summer evening, Marc was enjoying a BBQ with friends on a high standing deck, when suddenly one of the railings gave and he fell to the ground. Thankfully his friends spun into gear and immediately called 911.

Marc was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center where they identified multiple injuries. He shattered his T12 vertebrae, broke his left clavicle, permanently bruised his spinal cord, had a blood clot, and aspirated from the fall.  In addition, Marc lost feeling from his knees down to his feet. The medical staff ran numerous tests on Marc and determined two stages of surgery were required to begin the healing process. The first he underwent, removed all the bone fragments and resolved any blood clotting. The second fused the T10-L2 vertebrae in his back, where they installed steel rods and screws to the damaged vertebrae. 

The doctors and medical staff have stated they are “cautiously optimistic” Marc will regain his strength and be able to walk again. This will heavily rest on how well physical therapy goes for Marc. 

The medical staff at HCMC has been amazing and we are grateful for all they have done for him and continue to do.  We are very thankful his friends took care of him when the accident occurred and did not hesitate. 

Marc has a long road to recovery and he would love to share his journey with you all.  He needs a cheering section and this site provides a wonderful way to share his progress and for him to connect with all his family and friends. 

Marc will take his recovery one day at a time.
