Mallory and Corey are looking forward to the arrival of their baby boy, but right now, they need lots of extra support and prayers. During the early morning hours of Monday, October 8, Mallory began leaking amniotic fluids. The Labor and Delivery staff at St. Joseph's assessed her condition, and she was transferred to Marshfield Medical Center where they are better able to treat per-term delivery and have a NICU for premature babies.
Mallory is currently 31 weeks pregnant and the goal is to get her to at least 34 weeks before she delivers. She will remain in the hospital on bed rest until the baby is born. Mallory is being treated with fluids, antibiotics, and other medicines to help stop labor contractions. She is also receiving medications to help the baby develop his lungs in case he is premature. Once the baby is born, he may spend up to 6 weeks in the NICU.
Mallory had intended to work until her due date, so she and Corey will lose that income they needed in preparation for the baby. We also expect the hospital bills to be quite high since both she and the baby will be receiving specialized care for many weeks.
