On approximately August 20th, I discovered a large swelling in my right armpit. Upon visiting my primary physician, the swelling was deemed significant and ordered a biopsy for September 2nd. The results of the biopsy were received on September 12 with a diagnosis of metastatic malignant melanoma, a very serious form of skin cancer. A PET scan was ordered and performed on September 17th to determine location of tumors. It showed tumors on the right armpit and right clavicle. Surgery was scheduled for September 27th which was cancelled due to spending
September 22 in the hospital with a temperature of 102+ fever, determined to be a urinary tract infection. I was placed on antibiotics for 10 days which interfered with the initial surgery date. On September 29th, I met with the oncologist to discuss a plan for treatment. He ordered a CT scan of my brain to see if the cancer has spread there. On Friday, I had the CT scan and as of October 2, we have not received the results from that. At this point, surgery has been rescheduled for October 4th at 8:15am which may be changed depending on the results of the CT scan and a possible attempt to shrink the tumors via medication prior to surgery to remove the tumors. I will do my best to keep this site up to date and I appreciate all your prayers and correspondence during this time.
