Following a routine doctor's appointment in April, the radiologist spotted a suspicious area in Lucy's lower left lung lobe, which after further testing was found to be a tumor. The tumor was identified as a non-small cell adenocarcinoma. She underwent surgery the beginning of June to remove the lower left lung lobe which contained the tumor and lymph nodes associated with that lobe. The surgery was successful in removing the tumor, surrounding tissue and lymph nodes. The pathology following the surgery showed the presence of cancer cells in one lymph node, putting her cancer at a Stage III.  At this time, there is no evidence of active cancer anywhere else, but as we know the cancer from her lung can travel, as evidenced by the presence in one lymph node, Lucy will be undergoing further treatment.


She will begin 4 rounds of chemotherapy, with the first infusion being Friday, July 16th. She will have three weeks between each infusion. Following the chemotherapy, she will be able to take a targeted therapy drug at home to continue to fight off any recurrence of the cancer.  Thank you for your care, concern and prayers as our family travels the road ahead!
