Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. As you know this last Thursday at 8p Lin suffered a massive stroke. The cause was a blood clot from a stinosis in her l carotid artery. I called 911 immediately and we went to Marin General for initial stabilizing treatment. The ED Dr. Martin thought that she needed immediate Intervention radiology to open the clot and restore blood flow. We were transferred to UC Neuro where later that night they were unable to retrieve the offending clot. She has been stable since then with repeat CT and MRI. Latest CT showed no further damage than the initial stroke. Relatively good news. She remains today (Friday) more awake then before, but severely impaired with total r sided paralysis. Weakness on the left and non verbal. She responds to my voice and touch but is still very fragile. The next 2 days are crucial because of the danger of swelling, and risk of infection from the tubes and procedures. I believe the plan will be an evaluation for rehab and therapy. My best hope is more awareness and strength in her left side, maybe limited use of the right. Recovery of speech is a long shot. She can swallow and hopefully can eat again someday. If we can get close to this level of function I plan to bring her home. Anything less would be overwhelming here. That would mean a care facility, which could spell a long decline. I can't be optimistic now, I was prepared to lose her when she went to the very high risk IR procedure. I will try to keep this updated and you all can sent in messages of hope and love which I read over and over to her. Thant you all for your offers of support. I may need some or a lot of that later, right now medically we are under control. Love Uncle Bob
