Just so you know, I thought I had this fall season all planned. Grant was graduating from chiropractic school the end of September and moving to Wilmington to start practicing with the Demetrious family. Dale and I would be driving down for visits with Grant and Alexis and riding bikes to the beach. When we weren’t doing that, it would be trips to our beautiful mountains for evenings with good friends and cheering on our Appalachian State Mountaineers. In between I would squeeze in some work flying some of my favorites-Frankfurt, London, and Munich.
Well, plans change. After a screening mammogram in late August, there was a call back for a diagnostic mammogram, an ultrasound, then a biopsy with a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma on the left side, then an MRI, then an MRI guided biopsy which showed cancer as well on the right side. So, instead of what I had planned, on October 9th I will be having a bilateral mastectomy.
As my mom says, this too shall pass. With a growing faith and the help and support of family, friends, and friends like family, I will get through this. Already I have learned how blessed I am to have the concern, love, and prayers of so many. I will go to visit Grant. I will return to App State, the mountains, and friends. I will be back flying.
