Welcome, family and friends, to Lauri's CaringBridge website where we intend to share all of the latest developments in her journey in one place! 
She and Monique want to stay connected with everyone and, as you can imagine, the amount information, appointments and details are quickly escalating as her treatment plans develop. 
We hope this site will help to ease their challenge in managing and sharing the latest with everyone who loves her!

In the beginning of May, Lauri had developed a problem with her balance, and was also experiencing some back pain. She'd been working hard on home improvement projects and we'd all believed that the discomfort was probably strain and maybe dehydration from all the exertion. Thankfully, she made the wise choice (with some coercion) to get these symptoms checked out. 

Some initial imaging revealed a 2.5" mass on her left lung, and a mass on the cerebellum (aka little brain) which was causing pressure to the 4th ventricle, part of the brain stem where spinal fluid runs to the brain and the spine. 

It was later revealed that there are actually a few brain lesions as well as several osseous lesions along her spine.  A lung biopsy revealed the mass to be 'adenocarcinoma', the most common form of lung cancer.

Her initial treatment will begin with 10 consecutive days of radiation therapy on the brain stem tumor. The goal is to reduce the tumor size and avoid any complications with it continuing to grow. 

She has additional appointments scheduled with an oncologist for the lung and spine on June 7th, so the details of that treatment plan are yet to come.
