Landon Smith

Landon was born with a Metabolic Liver Disease called PFIC2 with BSEP deficiency. This is where the protein Bile Salt Export Pump (BSEP)is missing from the liver. This leads to a condition known as BSEP Deficiency. BSEP moves bile salts out of the liver and into the bile, where they are directed to the intestine to help the digestion and absorption of fats.
Landon spent 1 week in the hospital in October 2008. They did a liver biopsy and took lots of bloodwork. They finally had an answer.
Landon is on medication everyday and has gone through occupational therapy for his developmental delays he incurred due to the disease.
He's been a trooper and although he's scratching everyday he's still in high spirits.
He's up and running now! After therapy and getting on a regular medication schedule along with follow up every 3 months Landon is a whole new kid! He's happy as can be, loves to dance, speaks, signs and even blows kisses to the pretty ladies! Oh, and he'll give everyone a high 5!
Elmo is his best friend. Not to mention his silky blanket.
He's our little angel.
This year 2010 he has to get another liver biopsy and we are going to see if he's ready for a diversion.

Fast forward: diversion for 5 years, Liver transplant age 7! (June 2015)
