I have used Caring Bridge in the past as I've know several people that had major illnesses - I really didn't plan on ever creating my own site!


On July 25th, 2018, I had my yearly mammogram.  A few days later I was told that they needed to get a few additional views to check out some areas of calcifications that were showing (this has happened to me several times before).  On August 1st, I had the followup mammogram and at the end, the very kind radiologist came to tell me that he was recommending a stereotactic core biopsy.  I had that procedure done on Thursday, August 9th.


I turned 51 on Monday, August 13th and this year I really only had one wish - good news from the biopsy!  However, the universe seems to have a different plan for me as I received a call on the 14th letting me know that I have both Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (pre-cancer) and Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (the real deal).  Based on the biopsy results, they believe that there is a mass approximately 5 cm in size (at first I thought mm and therefore, "Well that's no big deal" and then my kids translated it to its more accurate 2").


I will admit that I am still in a bit of shock over this - it has been an out of body experience.  But it certainly gives me a new perspective on every other woman that has been through this - and there are SO MANY!!  I am a very open person and therefore will be sharing this news with anyone I know so there are no secrets here - and if anyone reading this has either faced this or any other type of cancer, or especially if you are going through this now, please contact me!  There is strength in numbers and I want as big a support network as I can get!!
