On January 9th, 2020 Kim went to the ER with severe stomach pains the inability to keep foods down. They did a scan and found a blockage in her bowel and decided to admit her overnight to have a surgeon look at the scans in the morning. The surgeon, Dr. Khun looked at her scans early January 10th morning and decided she would need surgery as soon as possible. He was concerned by the scan and believed the blockage to a tumor. The surgery went well and they removed a chunk of her colon along with the full tumor.
The pathology report came back on January 16th and the doctors told us that she has stage three colon cancer. They tested 32 lymph nodes and found cancer in only one of those nodes.
The diagnosis, in general, is very positive with all things considered. Once healed from surgery she will start 12 rounds of chemo over a span of six months. We are so thankful for all the prayers and well wishes. Everything happened so quickly, so we are taking things one day and moment at a time.
